| Palgrave United Church held its first service on May 19, 1878. It was a Primitive Methodist congregation at that time but joined the United Church of Canada at church union in 1925. The Palgrave congregation is primarily composed of young families with children but all ages participate together in a lovely mix of generations. Newcomers and visitors are warmly welcomed. The 10:30 a.m. Sunday church service is relaxed and informal, brightened with the voices of the Sunshine Singers (children ages 5 - 14) and the adult choir as well as by lay scripture readers and other lay participation and with a lively story time for the children who gather upstairs in the church before moving on to Sunday School classes which end at 11:30 when all gather for refreshments |

The current minister, Rev. Shelley Roberts, began her work with the Palgrave congregation in October 2002. She, and her husband Roger, live in the United Church manse at 17211 Highway 50, just a block from the church. They have four grown children and six grand children who all visit on occasion. Both Shelley and her husband Roger grew up in United Church families in small rural communities. Shelley entered ministry in 1996 after 20 years of volunteer service with the United Church. She first served at MacTier-Foot’s Bay (Muskoka), then at Lefroy United (Innisfil) before coming to Palgrave. She has a passionate love for the United Church of Canada and for smaller churches which she feels provide many opportunities for community, intimacy, and informality which are not available in larger buildings. |
